Where can I do a wellness or detox retreat in Bali?
Checked October 2026 · 2 sources
Ubud and its surroundings are Bali's wellness hub, with established retreat resorts such as COMO Shambhala Estate and Fivelements along the Ayung River. Canggu and Uluwatu offer yoga and surf retreats by the sea, while the Tabanan highlands host quieter programmes such as Bali Silent Retreat near Penebel. Most retreats run from 3 to 7 nights.
In detail
Ubud concentrates the widest choice: resort programmes with daily yoga, spa treatments, plant-based menus and Balinese healing rituals, plus smaller studio retreats run by schools such as The Yoga Barn. The cooler, greener setting suits rest and digital detox.
On the coast, Canggu mixes yoga, breathwork and surf lessons, and Uluwatu combines cliff-top yoga shalas with beaches. These retreats are often more social and active than those in Ubud.
For silence and nature, look inland to Tabanan, Sidemen in East Bali or the Munduk area in the north. Rooms are simpler, phones are often discouraged, and days follow a slow rhythm of meditation, walks and rice-field views.
A detox programme is a lifestyle break, not a medical treatment. If you have a health condition, take medication or plan a fast or juice cleanse, ask your doctor before booking and check who supervises the programme on site.
Good to know
- Ask for a sample daily schedule and exactly what is included: meals, treatments, transfers.
- Book April to October for drier weather in the hills around Ubud.
- Groups can rent a private villa and bring in their own teachers and therapists.
