Where are the best views and landscapes in Bali?

Checked October 2026 · 3 sources

Short answer

The most striking views are inland: sunrise over Lake Batur from the summit of Mount Batur or the Kintamani crater rim, the Jatiluwih and Tegallalang rice terraces, the Sidemen valley facing Mount Agung, and the twin lakes Buyan and Tamblingan from Wanagiri. On the coast, the Uluwatu cliffs at sunset and Kelingking on Nusa Penida stand out.

In detail

Kintamani, about 1.5 hours north of Ubud, looks over the Batur caldera, its lake and lava fields. Without hiking, the cafés and viewpoints along the crater rim at Penelokan give a wide panorama, best before the clouds build up in late morning.

Jatiluwih in Tabanan is a UNESCO-listed landscape of rice terraces watered by the traditional subak system, with marked walking trails. Sidemen in East Bali is quieter, with terraced fields and Mount Agung in the background on clear mornings.

In the north, the road above Munduk passes the Wanagiri viewpoints over Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan. The air is cool and mist is frequent, so go early.

Along the coast, the Uluwatu cliffs and Melasti offer sunset views over the Indian Ocean. Day trips to Nusa Penida reach Kelingking's T-Rex shaped headland and Diamond Beach, but expect crowds and long road times on the island.

Good to know

  • Mount Agung is clearest at dawn, roughly from 6 to 8 am.
  • The dry season, April to October, gives the clearest skies.
  • Bring a light jacket for Kintamani and Munduk; it gets cool at altitude.
