Do I need a visa to visit Bali?

Checked October 2026 · 4 sources

Short answer

Most visitors need a visa for Bali. Passport holders from the nine ASEAN countries get 30 days visa-free. About 97 other nationalities, including the UK, EU, US and Australia, can buy a visa on arrival or e-VOA for IDR 500,000. Everyone else needs a C1 tourist visa issued before travel.

In detail

Visa-free entry covers Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. It allows 30 days for tourism and cannot be extended.

The visa on arrival (VOA) gives a 30-day single-entry stay. You can buy it online in advance as an e-VOA on the official site evisa.imigrasi.go.id, or at the counter at Bali airport.

If your country is not on the VOA list, or you want 60 days from the start, apply for a C1 tourist visa online before you fly. It costs around IDR 1,000,000 and takes roughly five working days.

A visa approved after you have already entered Indonesia is not valid, so sort it out before landing. You also need proof of an onward or return ticket.

Good to know

  • Use only evisa.imigrasi.go.id; lookalike sites charge extra fees.
  • Apply for the e-VOA at least a few days ahead to skip the airport visa queue.
