How long must my passport be valid for Indonesia?

Checked October 2026 · 2 sources

Short answer

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you arrive in Indonesia, with at least 2 blank pages. Airlines check this at check-in and can refuse boarding. Emergency or temporary passports need 12 months of validity to get a visa on arrival.

In detail

The 6-month rule is counted from your arrival date, not your departure. A passport expiring 5 months after landing is not enough, even for a short holiday.

Make sure your passport is in good condition. Torn pages or water damage can cause problems at immigration.

You also need proof of an onward or return flight when entering on a visa on arrival or visa exemption.

Good to know

  • Renew early if you are close to the limit; processing times vary by country.
  • Keep a digital copy of your passport photo page separate from the original.
