No work
Average total cost€169 – 225
Full description and prices

The C6 social visit visa covers non-commercial social or humanitarian activities, such as volunteering for a registered foundation or NGO, or taking part in a community programme. It requires an Indonesian sponsor, normally the host organisation or an agent working with it. It gives 60 days and can be extended up to 180 days. Since April 2026, Bali immigration has stepped up controls on volunteering: helping in a hostel, retreat, surf camp or private school in exchange for free accommodation or meals is treated as work when you only hold a tourist visa, and can lead to deportation. The C6 is the right frame only if the host is a genuine non-profit and the activity is unpaid. The official fee is not clearly published for this index; agents in Bali charge about IDR 3 to 4 million, sponsor included.

Average total costFree
Full description and prices

Visa exemption (index A1) lets citizens of ASEAN countries, such as Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Timor-Leste, enter Indonesia for free for 30 days. In 2025 and 2026 Indonesia added a short list of other countries, including Brazil, Peru and Türkiye. French and other EU citizens are not eligible: they need a Visa on Arrival or an e-visa obtained before departure. The 30 days cannot be extended or converted into another visa while you are in Indonesia, so you must leave before day 30. Exempt travellers still fill in the All Indonesia arrival card and pay the Bali tourist levy. We list it here because travel forums still repeat that Europeans can enter Bali without a visa: the broad exemption for 169 countries was suspended in 2020 and has not come back.

Rules that apply to every visa

  • Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date and have blank pages (plan for at least two).
  • Carry a return or onward ticket: airlines and immigration officers can ask for it, whatever your visa.
  • Every foreign visitor pays the Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000 (about €8) once per trip, ideally online at lovebali.baliprov.go.id. KITAS and golden visa holders can request an exemption on the same site.
  • Fill in the free All Indonesia arrival card (allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id or the All Indonesia app) within the 3 days before landing. Since 1 October 2025 it replaces the separate customs (e-CD) and health declarations.
  • Tourist visas (exemption, B1, C1, D1) do not allow any work, paid or unpaid: sponsored posts, barter deals, yoga classes or volunteering in exchange for accommodation are treated as work. Since April 2026 a dedicated immigration task force has been checking this in Canggu, Ubud, Seminyak and Uluwatu.
  • Overstaying costs IDR 1,000,000 (about €56) per day, paid before departure. Beyond 60 days of overstay, you face deportation and an entry ban (5 years in the standard case).

Frequently asked questions

Which visa do I need for Bali?

French citizens always need a visa: the free ASEAN exemption does not apply to them. For a holiday of up to 60 days, take the Visa on Arrival or e-VoA (IDR 500,000, 30 days plus one 30-day extension). For 2 to 6 months, take the C1 tourist e-visa before you leave. If you come back several times a year, the D1 multiple-entry visa is more practical. To work remotely legally, look at the E33G; to retire, at the E33F or E33E.

How much does a Bali visa cost?

The e-VoA costs IDR 500,000 (about €28), and the same again for the 30-day extension. The C1 tourist visa costs IDR 1,500,000 (about €83) in official fees, or about €100 to €156 through an agent. Add the Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000 (about €8) per trip. Long-stay permits (KITAS) range from about IDR 6 to 7 million in official fees to IDR 13 million or more for five-year visas, and agents usually charge between €700 and €2,500.

How do I extend my Bali visa?

Apply online on evisa.imigrasi.go.id, or through an agent, at least one to two weeks before your stay ends. The Visa on Arrival can be extended only once, by 30 days, for IDR 500,000. The C1 can be extended twice by 60 days, for about IDR 1,000,000 in official fees each time or IDR 1.85 to 2.5 million through an agent. The immigration office may call you in for a photo and fingerprints. Never let your stay expire: each extra day costs IDR 1,000,000.

Is there a digital nomad visa for Bali?

Yes, the E33G remote worker KITAS. It gives one year to people paid by an employer or clients outside Indonesia, with income of at least USD 60,000 a year (about €51,500), USD 2,000 in the bank over three months and health insurance. Official fees are IDR 7,000,000 (about €389); agents charge about €700 to €900 all-in. Working remotely on a VoA or C1 is not covered, and controls have increased since April 2026.

Can I stay 6 months in Bali?

Yes, with the C1 tourist visa: 60 days on arrival, then two 60-day extensions, for up to 180 days without leaving Indonesia. The D1 multiple-entry visa also allows stays of up to 180 days per visit with extensions, according to agents. The Visa on Arrival stops at 60 days. Beyond six months, you need a KITAS, such as the E33G, a student E30, a retirement E33F or a second home E33.

Is there a retirement visa for Bali?

Yes, from age 55. The E33F lasts one year, needs a sponsor and a pension or income of at least USD 3,000 a month, with about IDR 7,000,000 in official fees. The E33E lasts five years, without a sponsor, with the same income condition plus USD 50,000 placed in an Indonesian state bank, for IDR 13,000,000 in official fees. Neither allows paid work in Indonesia.

Can I work in Bali on a tourist visa?

No. The exemption, VoA, C1 and D1 do not allow any work, paid or unpaid. Immigration treats sponsored content, hotel barter deals, teaching yoga, DJ sets or volunteering in exchange for accommodation as work. Since April 2026 a dedicated task force checks the main tourist areas, and offenders face fines, deportation and entry bans. For remote work, the legal option is the E33G; for a local job, the E23 work KITAS.

What happens if I overstay my visa?

You pay IDR 1,000,000 (about €56) per day of overstay at the airport before leaving. Beyond 60 days, or if you cannot pay, you face detention, deportation and an entry ban, generally five years. Check the end date printed on your stay permit, counting your arrival day as day one.

Information checked in October 2026 against official and specialist sources. Indonesian visa rules change often: confirm on evisa.imigrasi.go.id or with a visa agent before you book. Euro amounts are approximate.
