Where can I find a villa for a wedding in Bali?

Checked October 2026 · 4 sources

Short answer

For a wedding villa, Uluwatu and Ungasan offer cliff-top ocean views, Jimbaran and Nusa Dua stay close to the airport, and Ubud suits a jungle or rice-field setting. Many foreign couples hold a symbolic ceremony in Bali and marry legally at home, because a legal Indonesian marriage requires a shared recognised religion and civil registry paperwork.

In detail

Under Indonesian law, a marriage is valid only if it follows the religion of both partners, who must share a recognised faith. Non-Muslim couples then register at the civil registry, with a 10-day notice period and sworn translations, including a certificate of no impediment from their embassy. Catholic weddings must take place in a church, and same-sex marriage is not recognised.

Each wedding villa sets its own rules: an event fee, a contribution to the local banjar, a maximum number of seated guests and a music cut-off, often 11 pm. Check that the lawn or deck fits both the ceremony and the dinner, and where vendors can unload and park.

April to October is the dry season, and June to August is the busiest period, so book the villa and key vendors 10 to 12 months ahead for those months. From November to March, plan a professionally built marquee or covered area in case of rain.

A planner who already knows the villa saves time on access, approved suppliers and timings. Group transport for guests and a rehearsal at the same hour as the ceremony help with traffic and sunset light.
