How many days do you need in Bali?
Checked October 2026 · 2 sources
Plan at least 7 days for a first trip to Bali, and 10 to 14 days if you want to combine beaches, Ubud and an island or volcano trip without rushing. With only 3 to 5 days, stick to one or two bases to limit time lost in traffic.
In detail
Bali is bigger and slower to cross than it looks. Uluwatu to Ubud can take two to three hours in traffic, so every change of hotel costs part of a day.
A practical 7-day plan: three or four nights at the beach (Seminyak, Canggu or Uluwatu) and three nights in Ubud for temples, rice terraces and waterfalls.
With 10 to 14 days, add a day trip or overnight to Nusa Penida, a Mount Batur sunrise hike, or a slower stay in the north or east, such as Amed or Sidemen, which are far less crowded.
Good to know
- Move hotels no more than every three or four nights.
- Hire a driver for full-day sightseeing.
- Keep your last night near the airport for early flights.
