What is Bali like in the rainy season?

Checked October 2026 · 4 sources

Short answer

Bali's rainy season runs roughly November to March, with the heaviest rain usually from December to February. Rain tends to come in strong afternoon or evening downpours rather than all day, so mornings are often usable, and prices and crowds are lower outside the Christmas holidays.

In detail

Indonesia's weather agency BMKG forecast the 2025/2026 national rainfall peak from November to February and listed Bali among areas with high to very high rainfall potential. Onset dates vary slightly by year and region, so check BMKG forecasts close to travel.

Expect high humidity, flooded roads in parts of south Bali after storms, and slower traffic. Some boat crossings to Nusa Penida or the Gili Islands can be cancelled when seas are rough, and volcano treks may close after heavy rain.

On the plus side, rice terraces are bright green, waterfalls are at full flow, hotel rates drop in January to March, and spas, cooking classes and temples work fine on wet days.

Mosquitoes increase with the rain. Dengue is present in Bali year round, so use repellent and choose accommodation with screens or air conditioning.

Good to know

  • Plan outdoor sightseeing for the morning.
  • Pack a light rain jacket and quick-dry shoes.
  • Keep a flexible day for boat trips in case of cancellations.
