Use ATMs inside or attached to bank branches, shopping malls or the airport, run by major Indonesian banks such as BCA, Mandiri, BNI or BRI. Card skimming is a known problem at isolated machines. Most ATMs dispense about IDR 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 per withdrawal, and your home bank may add fees.

Before inserting your card, check the slot for loose parts and look for small cameras aimed at the keypad. Cover your PIN with your hand every time.
Choose English at the start, decline any request to change your PIN, and take both cash and card before leaving. Some machines give cash first, and cards left behind are often swallowed.
Tell your bank you are travelling, and check your account regularly. If an ATM keeps your card, go to the branch in opening hours with your passport.
