Where can I watch traditional Balinese dance in Bali?

Checked October 2026 · 3 sources

Short answer

The two classic choices are the Kecak fire dance at Uluwatu Temple at sunset, around 6 pm, for about IDR 150,000 plus temple entry, and the nightly performances at Ubud Palace at 7.30 pm for about IDR 100,000. Ubud also has Legong, Barong and Kecak shows in other temples and village stages every evening.

In detail

At Uluwatu, the Kecak is performed in an open-air amphitheatre on the cliffs, with a chorus of men chanting "cak" and an episode of the Ramayana. The sunset show starts around 6 pm and lasts about an hour, with a second show on busy days. Temple entry is paid separately, about IDR 50,000 per adult.

Ubud Palace (Puri Saren Agung) hosts a different dance each night at 7.30 pm, including Legong and Barong, for about an hour and a half. Tickets are sold at the gate or by sellers on Jalan Raya Ubud during the day.

Other Ubud venues, such as Pura Dalem Ubud and village halls around town, put on Kecak, fire dances and Barong performances. The Bali Arts Festival in Denpasar, held each year from June to July, presents dance troupes from every regency.

Dances are also part of temple ceremonies. If you are invited to one, dress modestly, sit lower than the priests and do not use flash.

Good to know

  • Arrive at Uluwatu 45 to 60 minutes early for a good seat and the temple walk.
  • Keep sunglasses and loose items away from the Uluwatu monkeys.
  • Prices change; check the current rate at the counter.
