The answer is no… In order to climb to the summit of the Batur Volcano, you will need to hire a local guide from the Mountain Batur Ascent Tour Guides Association.
The climb in itself is not so difficult, but the local authorities have enforced this rule in order to control the flow of visitors and to help the local community.
